The year barely arrived before I got the first manga in the mail. I might have ordered it before the year ended but since it arrived after December 31st I count it in this years haul. So, without any further jabbering, here’s what my latest shopping spree ended up in.
Coyote vol. 1
The buzz have been going about this manga in the BL world for a while now so when it finally was released it felt like a must to buy. Also, I like the description. I mean, who does not like werewolves?
In order to conceal that he’s a werewolf, Coyote avoids getting too involved with humans. But Marleen, a pianist at a bar he frequents, is interested in him and just won’t take no for an answer. When Coyote unexpectedly goes into heat for the first time, Marleen catches him while he’s unable to maintain his human form and offers up a tempting invitation. Coyote wants to resist, but can he? (Sublime)
Ajin Demi-human vol. 1-12
I know, I know, I have bought this one in digital before but it is so damn good I need it in print too. It is so beautiful. I love it so much, my little baby.
The story follows a high-school student named Kei Nagai who is caught in a traffic accident, dies, but immediately revives and learns he is not human, but an Ajin, a mysterious creature that cannot die. Scared, he runs away from humans hunting him down but is helped by his friend, Kai, who joins him in his flight from civilization. He then becomes involved in a conflict between human and Ajin and must choose a side.
Gangsta vol. 1
Again, a manga with a lot of buzz around it. I actually started to consider buying this after the author went out on Twitter and begged people to not read scanlations of it because she loses a lot of money when people don’t buy her work. People then started to argue against her and it was a mess. I haven’t read it but I got curious because people talk so well about it.
In the city of Ergastulum, a shady ville filled with made men and petty thieves, whores on the make and cops on the take, there are some deeds too dirty for even its jaded inhabitants to touch. Enter the “Handymen,” Nic and Worick, who take care of the jobs no one else will handle. Until the day when a cop they know on the force requests their help in taking down a new gang muscling in on the territory of a top Mafia family. It seems like business (and mayhem) as usual, but the Handymen are about to find that this job is a lot more than they bargained for.
I like manhwa, what can I say. I buy all BL manhwa Netcomics releases. All I can get my hands on at least, there are some I haven’t found. Anyway, it’s a high school story and I am a sucker for BL and high school. Most likely a typical story but hey, sometimes the ordinary is nice.
“To be honest, my dream is erotic, but it is horror as well…”
Howon is a high school student who lives with his sister and his mom. As his dad passed away, his sister is supporting the family. He starts having very vivid erotic dreams, involving his current best friend, Jihyung, and his former one, Changwoo. Now, he must try to figure out if he is gay and the way this might affect his already frail family. Howon remembers the time Changwoo helped him in a fight, years before, making them become close friends and maybe more than that. As his friend Jihyung also has some important news to share, Howon’s life becomes an emotional and sexual rollercoaster.
Yokai Rental Shop vol. 4
Last volume, need to have it obviously. I still haven’t read vol three, I waited for this to come out. I do love this series so yeah, I look forward to the conclusion.
A young man named Hiiragi has recently learned that he has a half-brother. Seeking him out, he not only finds the brother he never knew, but discovers he is a mysterious individual covered in bandages who runs an exclusive rare animal pet shop. But this unique shop is itself a front for something even more mysterious: a secret shop where customers in-the-know can sign a contract forged in blood and rent out yokai for their own singular purposes!
The Promised Neverland vol. 7
What should I say about this? Really, it’s the continuation of an amazing manga. I have only read three volumes and now with the anime going on I am NOT gonna keep on reading until it is over. Why, you ask? Because I want the element of surprise. I wish I hadn’t known what would happen to Conny. The impact that scene made on me despite knowing what I would see was huge. Imagine how it would have affected me had I not known what would happen. Yeah, so I am gonna put this on the shelf and wait for the anime to be over before I read it.
At Grace Field House, life couldn’t be better for the orphans! Though they have no parents, together with the other kids and a kind “Mama” who cares for them, they form one big, happy family. No child is ever overlooked, especially since they are all adopted by the age of 12. Their daily lives involve rigorous tests, but afterwards, they are allowed to play outside.
There is only one rule they must obey: do not leave the orphanage. But one day, two top-scoring orphans, Emma and Norman, venture past the gate and unearth the horrifying reality behind their entire existence: they are all livestock, and their orphanage is a farm to cultivate food for a mysterious race of demons. With only a few months left to pull off an escape plan, the children must somehow change their predetermined fate.
What Did You Eat Yesterday? vol. 1
I have a thing for the mangaka, Yoshinaga Fumi. I love her style and her storytelling has something romantic over it. I also read that she is a huge fan of food and I think I found a soulmate in her; BL and food mixed together. Many talk well about this too, being a very laidback manga without all the usual drama a BL often contain. So, I look forward to explore this world of Yoshinaga.
Kakei Shirou, a lawyer whose hobby is cooking, lives with his lover Yabuki Kenji, a hairdresser. The story follows their daily lives, with the dishes that Kakei makes providing the backdrop against which the author explores the reality of being a gay couple in Japan.
This one is a manga I actually bought back in November but I seem to have forgotten to write about it so I figured I could cover it in this post. Anyway, he’s a president at a company and as much as I love high school dramas in BL as much do I love office romances.
President Momoi is only interested in his leadership role cause it’ll help him find a young, sexy boyfriend! But why is he constantly gazing at his colleague, the old and very married Director Watanabe? And what exactly does his massive company manufacture, anyway?! President Momoi-kun splices together the silly and the seductive in a masterful mix of crushes, courtship…and naughty ‘candid’ photos! Will the President avoid public scandal while convincing his beloved that their private partying is worth all the trouble?
This is it my darlings, there will not be any more hauls in a while. Probably. I have bought some nice art from Aero Zero (check their comics out, they are awesome.) so I am now broke. Well, I can’t say for sure though because in the end, I will always look out for the odd ones and the rare ones and for those I will make it work. So yeah, in the meantime, on this Penguin Awareness Day; have a penguin.
