Going off the grid doesn’t mean staying away from internet shops. I did allow myself ten minutes of internet time each day. Oh, you think I was hard on myself? I didn’t even turn on my computer some days, that’s how little I actually missed ze internetz. Anyway, I properly used that time to browse every little corner of the wast desert of the cyber space in the hunt for some amazing manga. My hunt clearly paid off because my shelves are now flooding over with nice, soft Japanese graphic novels. I did actually visit a couple of physical stores as well when I visited the capitol city but I didn’t get that lucky; I only found two manga to buy. All else is so damn expensive in shop. Well, let’s get this party started; here’s what I bought since my last post.
Yellow vol 1-4
Definitely straight Taki and openly gay Goh are an expert team of “snatchers” hired by the police to steal from the mafia. Lately, Goh has been more interested in acquiring Taki than in the usual caches of arms and drugs. Will Taki and Goh become a new kind of partners?
Let’s begin with my latest find. I got it in the mail literally yesterday. I have been searching high and low for this manga but never been able to find volume one and two. It’s out of print as far as I know. There is also an omnibus but it seems to be impossible to find as well. So, imagine the ecstasy when this suddenly showed up in an internet store for used books. (My sister in law is hereby named a devil; she introduced me to that store and now I can’t stop browsing.)
Intense vol 1-4
Crime lord Yoonshik takes a little boy named Jiwoon as collateral when the child’s father hangs himself from debt. Eight years later, the boy is working as Yoonshik’s bodyguard. When the boss gets locked behind bars, Jiwoon is sent to work for another middle boss in the city’s red-light district. There, Jiwoon meets a mysterious mute, Soohan, and everything just might change for him.
Oh, it is so beautiful. Now I am just talking about the binding and the cover. The art inside is equally as amazing. Not a manga but a manhwa. I’ve been yearning for this one for a long time and now I have it.
Core Scramble vol 1-3
In a world plagued by monsters swarming through portals from other dimensions, a brave group of soldiers called Clarus Orbis battles the otherworldly threat. Unfortunately, when you’re an average grunt like Chaeun, survival becomes a daily ordeal, especially under the reckless leadership of his sexually arrogant commander Gayoon. Abandoned on the battlefield by the handsome Gayoon, Chaeun desperately fights off an endless bug onslaught only to be rescued by the mysterious renegade leader Moonhoo. At first, the man playfully flirts with Chaeun, but slowly the realization dawns that Moonhoo and his Core Hunter group have insidious ambitions on the dimensional portals. And only Chaeun and his hot-tempered leader Gayoon stand in their way.
Sexy. That’s enough right? I always google some images of the manga/manhwa I consider to buy to see if it seems interesting. Well, this was sexy, need I say more.
Loveless vol 13
Oh, how I have been waiting for this. Forever it feels like. Damn if it takes just as long for the next volume. Kouga has said she plans it to end at 15 volumes but if she takes just as long for the next two volumes it’s not finished until somewhere around 2026. Let’s pray that doesn’t happen. Anyway, I’m happy to have it in my book shelf now.
Love Is Like a Hurricane vol 1-5
Mizuki gets molested on a train bound for school, and the perpetrator is none other than the school president, Azuma! Mizuki gets called to the student council room, where Azuma confesses his love for him. So begins the tale of this wacky school story.
Poor Mizuki has the worst luck. Gifted with beauty that rivals most females, he finds himself defending his honor in more ways than one. When he gets molested on board a train for school one day, he starts to think things can’t get any worse. That is until he is called into the student council office by the president, Azuma. Turns out the perpetrator of that morning’s foray is none other than the student council president himself! Azuma is not one for one night stands and begins his campaign to make Mizuki his own.
This was a disappointment. Well, not the manga itself because I have not read it yet so I don’t really know how it plays out but I bought it at an auction site and the seller said it was new, as in never read before. I got it and it was in such a bad condition I just wanted to cry. Well, you would say I am exaggerating now but the spine on every volume was broken, there were even dog ears in one volume. They were not worth anything, and definitely not what I paid. My husband managed to get some money back but they have been laying on another shelf, hidden away from my sight until yesterday. When stuff like this happen I always get so much anxiety so this buy had the exact opposite effect than intended. I hope it is worth it in the end, when I read it. If I do.
Childhood friends Seyun and Yoojin struggle to maintain their friendship as their lives take them down different paths. But when old feelings start resurfacing, a bitter tug-of-war starts, with hearts in the balance, secrets in the closet, and twists that nobody sees coming!
I don’t know. Hehe. No but seriously, it’s a manhwa and it sounds interesting, and I like the art. There’s no deeper thought behind it.
Typical school boy Shibutani has always had trouble staying interested in his girlfriends, but when mild-mannered Yoshizumi transfers to his class, his interest is strangely piqued. As Shibutani tries to get to know his new classmate, he finds Yoshizumi to be awkward and even hostile. Other delightfully-crafted stories include a high school boy with a bizarre mask fetish deeply in lust with his dentist; a boyfriend’s jealously over the close relationship between his lover and a best friend; and a couple who are overtly pouting over who should be on top in the bedroom.
Here’s a manga that’s also connected with a lot of anxiety. I have tried to buy it once before, back in January or February, from Book Depository. They fucked up royally, cancelling my orders and starting to fight me when I tried to understand why when they had it listed as in stock. It was a mess and many emails were exchanged. (there were some other issues as well with missing manga in that same order so yeah, it wasn’t solely this manga the argument was about but still, it has it’s bad memory tied to it) Anyway, I found it here in a domestic internet shop. No fuzz what so ever. It’s rather special when it comes to the art but I like it and I think I will like the story as well. The cover makes me happy.
A girl falls into a coma and finds herself at an unusual “convenience store” managed by a talking dog. In the land where dreams are made, suspended somewhere between life and death, she watches and learns from the various souls she encounters.
A manga that isn’t licensed in English but well in Swedish. It sounds interesting. I have always been fascinated by dreams. I actually bought it with my 10 y/o in mind. I’ll have to read it first to see though, it might be a little bit to adult for her yet but something tells me she would like this.
The Demon Ororon vol 1-4
A lonely yet caring 15-year-old Chiaki, the half-angel daughter of the Archangel Michael and a human woman, welcomes into her home a dejected devil Ororon who pledges to stay at her side forever.
Both of them have been ostracized from their respective celestial realms–Chiaki because her origins are impure and Ororon because he is the youngest son of the Lord Devil and therefore a threat to his older brothers for leadership of the underworld.
As various agents of heaven come by to destroy the angel Chiaki, she learns that having the incredibly powerful Ororon by her side is useful. And as assassin after assassin comes to eliminate Ororon, he learns that Chiaki can teach him a valuable lesson about the sanctity of life.
I found it in a used comic book store. I love those tiny, in-the-wall stores that are super cheap. Dude who owns it is more into American comics so he sells all manga super cheap. I am a sucker for cheap and if I find a complete series for under 20€, of course I’m gonna buy it. Well, that and it looks good, I like that 90s art style.
I think this is it. I have some series I really should complete/continue; Finder vol 6-7, Of the Red, the Light and Ayakashi vol 8-10, The Promised Neverland vol 3-4, Yokai Rental Shop vol 3, Fire Punch vol 2-3, Nightmare Inspector. I want to buy Fullmetal Alchemist, the complete series. There’s so much I want to have. Well, another day. But for now, I have to be satisfied with this. And I am. Another day or two at least. Tjipp!
