Incest In Anime/Manga – Because Why Not

So, here’s the deal. Incest, that’s forbidden right? Nasty, pervy, so disgusting. You shudder just by the thought that a brother and a sister would even look at each other in another light than just with the eyes of a murderous maniac who wants to steal your toys and beat you to a pulp if you so much as go within a meter from their door. (oh, that’s just me and my brother, y’all have loving relationships with your siblings? You actually spend time talking like real people? You don’t kill each other? Throw butter knives or ketchup bottles at each other *true story*? Oh, okey…) Back to normal siblings’ reality then; you rather have your brother or sister as a friend and not a lover. Because, love is not love but another kind of love when it comes to family.

Super Lovers

So, here’s what I don’t get. People are so upset about all these anime and manga where the siblings aren’t really siblings; Citrus, Eromanga Sensei, Super Lovers… There is a long list (yeah, hentai we should not thread thy grounds). In most of these anime/manga these kids haven’t even grown up together. So what’s the big deal? They are two strangers who fall in love. They just happen to live under the same roof all of a sudden but they are not related by blood. I just don’t get it. There is no problem with these people having a relationship.

Incest though. I like the idea of incest. Not in real life. Well, actually, I have a firm belief that adult people should be able to do whatever the fuck they want with their bodies and if that includes fucking their brother then by all means they should. So long as they are responsible adults and make sure no babies are made in the process. But back to non-reality here…

Brother x Brother

In anime/manga I do like the incest element. It adds that little extra. The forbidden. Especially to boys love. I am such a sucker for brothers in all kinds of situations. Hell, I write fan fiction about brothers without any shame what so ever. I like it, it is forbidden, it is slutty, it is alluring, it is sexy, it is hot, it is interesting. The psychological aspect of an incestuous relationship is interesting to follow. Because, there will always be complications when they are brothers. Complications you don’t have with normal lovers. And that entice me.

Maybe I should make a top 5 boys love incest manga?

      1. You should totally make a list of your top five incest BL manga. I’m not a huge fan of incest stories, myself. I’m probably guilty of making “ew, gross” noises and I really shouldn’t because I’m otherwise a very firm believer in allowing people space for whatever trips their trigger. To make amends, I would totally read your top five incest BL with an open mind.

      2. I think there will be a list about incest manga in my new project to come. You are not alone in that reaction, most people do react that way I think, which is understandable, especially if you have siblings yourself. I mostly like the aspect of the psychology behind such relationships, be it why they come to end up in one. So, my suggestions might not all be wholesome relationships depicted because in the end, incest isn’t very wholesome. (when I was a teenager I watched, and loved, a Swedish soap opera about a pair of twins, brother and sister, who met in their teens. They fell madly in love before they knew they were siblings. I wonder just how much that has to do with me liking this trope now.)

      1. It took me a chapter or two to get into it the art starts off a bit rough but the story is so good. The Heel siblings are only in the manga sadly, but the anime follows the first chapters really closely.

  1. I love how honest and upfront you are! πŸ˜€
When I was reading the part that if they are adults they can do anything they want I made in that moment a mental note about the babes, but you covered that! πŸ˜€
In relation of incest… Hmm, probably because I have a brother and I’m gay and all it creeps me a little out, but as you say, you do you and I do I no problem whatsoever! To be honest I’m completely good with anyone’s likes and dislikes when it comes to sexual… I mean probably anything! If you don’t hurt anyone then what’s the problem!? And I completely believe that Anime should be an outlet to see our deepest fantasies put into motion! You are able to please yourself and not hurt anyone! Great post! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I get that people get creeped out by incest. I could never do anything with my brother except give him a hug. He’s not good with that even so yeah… I would never even think like that when I look at him. Ugh. But in fiction I am all for it. I have yet to see a BL with real brothers though. The closest to “siblings” is Super Lovers I think and they are just adopted brothers who haven’t even grown up together so that doesn’t count. πŸ˜› I would think that the studios are to much of cowards to make a proper incest anime unless it’s hentai. Ah well… I have manga. 😎 And as you say, people have different sexual preferences and that’s fine. I will never judge anyone; if they get turned on by an egg then so be it.

  2. I honestly have had experiences with incest anime, especially Super Lovers. I have extensive reviews up on my blog about why I don’t like their relationship. The short of it is that even though theyre not related, Haru raised him from a child, becoming his defacto father figure. Their relationship then switches to romantic when Ren is 15, still under the age of majority. The fact that we see Haru in a fatherly role before the switch makes everything seem skeevy. Ren’s naivete and absolute trust of Haru also adds a level of unbalanced power to the relationship that makes it uncomfortable. I think in almost any sibling relationship there will be some sort of unbalanced power dynamic that works in someones disfavor, and that just becomes unhealthy.

    1. Thank you for your thoughts. Although I don’t necessarily agree with all I think it’s interesting to hear your view of it. (I read your review of season 1. I haven’t seen season two yet (if I ever will, I don’t know) because I was a bit disappointed in season one. Miyuki Abe is one of my favorite mangaka’s and I hold Super Lovers rather high as a manga and I felt that the anime didn’t do the manga justice. This might be why I don’t always agree with the critique the anime has gotten.) I do understand your points on incest though and I think that is a matter of taste if you like that dynamics in a manga/anime. I think it is interesting from psychological point of view.

  3. I fully agree with you. I firmly believe that there’s nothing wrong with incestuous sex between adults. I think people often relate incest to statutory rape, but they’re obviously not related in any way. I’m glad you put it out there.
