30 Day Anime Challenge: Day 19 (Let’s Stop The Evil With Our Music)

I was thinking long and hard about this one. What was I supposed to chose? The easy answer would be some fight scene from Shingeki no Kyojin or maybe something from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Fight scenes are always epic, right? But, I am not that into pure fighting anime. I like a good fight but I like it odd. I prefer a food fight before a fight with knives. So, then it hit me. My favorite music anime has one of the most epic, in my eyes, scenes I know.

Obviously there is spoilers below.

Bakumatsu Rock is an anime about rock being banned in Japan. Well, really all music is banned except for the music the government has approved of; the angel music performed by the Shinsengumi stars. The stars are admired by everybody, all over the town. But, there is someone who just want to play his own music. Rock n’ roll. So, he breaks the rules and finds two comrades who also have the rock in their blood and these three has little improvised concerts all over the city. The Shinsengumi of course chases them and tries to capture them and there is a whole lot to that story. All in all, the government’s goal is to brainwash the people into becoming obedient sheep with the angel music and they can’t have kids playing rock n’ roll, disturbing their plan.

In this epic scene the three guys have found out that their sensei have been corrupted by the government and are playing angel music too. (angel music doesn’t necessarily sound like something beautiful as you can hear when the little strange man on the stage play. The audience think it is amazing though.) Well, watch the video and see what happens. It’s got hot guys losing their shirts, two handsome men on a white horse, awesome music, fireworks and a guy dissipating into thin air.

  1. I love the fact that you have chosen a very original and unique scene for this category. Mostly we get fights or stuff like that, but this one is certainly different. Also loved the music (I’m a bit of rock fan, so this was awesome).
As for me: my most epic scene is from the original Macross series in which gets blown back into the stone age by a fleet of 4 million alien space ships. I unfortunately could not find a clip for the original Japanese version, so instead I included a link for the American version, which doesn’t make it any less epic 😊 https://youtu.be/rVKFN8-HCAQ

    1. There is a lot of awesome music in this anime. I love music anime and this is my favorite along with Kids on the Slope. Two completely different music genre; rock and jazz. 😎 Well, I was pondering about what to chose, I know most people (all I can imagine) choses fight scenes. I like this a lot because they are fighting with their music (all through out the anime). I had another scene in mind too but i am saving it for best weapon. 😎 You can never guess what anime that one is from. 😎

Yes, that scene from Macross certainly is impressive. I like the way that anime is animated. The style and the colors. Also, I don’t mind the dub. Not when it comes to old anime. Generally I have a hard time with dubbed anime, maybe because it always is the same people dubbing and everything sounds the same. I get the impression that during the 80s and 90s it was better VAs. I might be wrong though, I rarely listen to dubs but when I do they don’t annoy me as todays VAs do.

      1. Kids on the slope 😍😍😍😍 I loved that anime. Even though I am totally not into jazz, that just fit the series perfectly, and I still think it had one of the best endings to an anime series ever πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
Haha…okay, I’m not going to guess, and just await that one in perfect patience 😊😊😊
The old Macross series is awesome…I really love retro anime, and in most cases I saw those animes in the dubbed versions. These days I rarely watch dubbed anime, just -referring the subbed versions. It just works better for me 😊😊

      2. Oh, another Slopes fan!! ☺️ I am a big jazz fan and it makes me happy to hear that even though you aren’t into jazz you like the anime anyway. I know some have been discouraged by the music. Not that I understand why because it is so perfect for that anime.

I haven’t watched dubbed anime since I tried to watch Black Butler. I dropped BB but it wasn’t because of the dub. I figured I should watch the dub because of their dialects, they play a big part of the supporting characters that you miss in the sub. Anyway, it doesn’t matter, I didn’t like it the anime anyway. πŸ˜›

      3. I absolutely loved that show. I was really unique, with a beautiful setting, some great characters, and a heartwarming story. Needless to say I loved it. I really dont’ like jazz. But in this anime it didn’t bother me (which was also the case in the truly amazing (not anime) movie Whiplash.
Haha…no me either…I always watch everything in the original language no matter what it is 😊😊
Okay….Black Butler was on my to watch list, erm encyclopedia. Does this mean I can skip it? πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

      4. It really is something special, Kids on the Slope. Very heartwarming and unique. Especially the relationship between the two male characters. I wish they had made it a little bit longer though. I felt the ending come a little bit to abrupt. It felt rushed. I have been thinking that I should read the manga but I haven’t had the chance yet.

I haven’t seen Whiplash, had to look it up, but it seems like a movie I’d like I think. Overall am I a sucker for music movies. That and dance. I like arts.

Black Butler yeah. I wanted it darker I suppose. Or maybe it is dark enough but the dub made it to comedic for me. This brittish english, stuck up way Ciel is talking. I should probably watch the sub. But there are a lot of comedic element in it too and I though that at times there were too much. It might be in season one only, idk. I would give it a try if I were you. I might give it a try myself again. I like Sebastian, I think he is a bad ass character. I just don’t think, so far, the others are. At least not when they speak english.

      5. Well, I really liked the ending in the church. It really was a very beautiful scene. Not everything worked in that anime, some of the things were a bit hard to follow storywise, but it was definitely an anime that I would not have wanted to miss.
Whiplash is seriously awesome. If you like jazz and some great acting, you are going to get a real kick out of it. It’s one of my personal favorites πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
Hmmm okay…I’m not scrapping Black Butler from my list yet. I always enjoy cool characters, so that is a plus for me. Maybe somewhere this year..?…Erm…I hope πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

      6. No, don’t scrap BB yet. Give it a few episodes at least. As I say, I might be colored by the dub. Maybe I should try the sub and give it another chance. Later… another month maybe. πŸ˜‚ 😎

      7. Haha….well, with the amount of anime that is currently piling up in a very short timespan, I don’t think I will watch BB very soon….maybe in a few months from now, but okay, I won’t scrap it πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
